On April 14, 2007 the Symposium for Teaching and Learning with Technology will be held at the Penn Stater Conference Center for the first time. This year's theme, "Social Computing and the Culture of Teaching and Learning", will put a spotlight on the impact of new tools such as blogs, wikis, podcasting, and tagging on the ways we communicate and learn. The symposium will act as a showcase for many of these technologies, giving faculty the opportunity to experience them first hand.
Keynote: Lee Rainie
Lee Rainie is the project director of the Pew Internet and American Life Project whose mission is to research and report on the way that new technologies are affecting the way Americans live, work, and learn. Lee Rainie's organization investigates topics such as the expectations of digital natives as they enter the workplace, demographic trends in broadband Internet access, perceptions of intellectual property, and teenagers who are becoming self-made media producers.
Featured Speaker: Bryan Alexander
Bryan Alexander is the director of the National Institute for Technology and Liberal Education. In his position as director of NITLE as well as though his participation in the New Media Consortium and the Educause Learning Initiative, Bryan looks at the ways that emerging technologies can be used to create opportunities for innovative teaching and learning practice. Bryan's specific interest is in the intersection of social computing and mobile learning, which he will be addressing at the 2007 symposium.
Thank you for the overwhelming amount of entries submitted to this year's TLT Symposium blog. In order to facilitate the continued communication, I have included direct links to selected blog categories below.

To register for the Penn State Symposium for Teaching and Learning with Technology to be held at the University Park Campus on April 8, 2006 from 9:00 AM until 4:30 PM, follow the steps below:
1. Go to ITS Training to begin the registration.
2. You will be prompted to log into WebAccess (with your Penn State User ID and Password) if you have not already done so.
3. Click the "Register" button.

4. At this point, your registration should be confirmed and you will be presented with the following message:

I established a wiki for this conference at: http://tlt2006.pbwiki.com.
You need a password to update the wiki. In the spirit of low security and high participation--and just between the two of us--the password is tlt2006.
Mark it up. Add pages. It's a sandbox in which you can play to try out wiki features. To track changes in the wiki, there is an rss feed for the wiki at:
http://tlt2006.pbwiki.com/rss2.php
Have comments or reactions to this wiki or the wiki concept? Why not post comments here?
By the way, I really like PBWiki. Free and easy to set up, especially if you can't roll your own wiki at Penn State.
We have decided to create a common tag for use with Flickr so we can create an online archive of digital images from this year's event. Flickr is a free photo storage and sharing tool that enables users to post their pictures and tag them with key words (categories). By tagging photos with an identical tag, we can create a "living photo album" made up of any Flickr photos that share our tag.
We've decided on the tag tltsymposium2006 for use with Symposium related photos. You can visit Flickr to see photos currently tagged with our shared tag. Also, if you are interested, you can subscribe to the RSS feed to receive automatic updates to the Flickr photos.
Please note that the Agenda Page has been updated to include a detailed agenda (PDF, 2.1 MB) and an at-a-glance agenda highlighting the symposium's schedule. A map of the University Park campus highlighting symposium parking and the bus route can also be found on the Agenda Page.
