The annual TLT Symposium happens in mid-spring, but the people who put on the event think about it throughout the year.  This year, I’ve been asked to serve as the head of the Program Team for the Symposium, which is primarily responsible for figuring out the schedule, what proposals will be accepted, and how the sessions fit together into a cohesive program.  The other committees this year are:

  • The Marketing/Web Team – promoting the event, news, communication, look and feel, etc…
  • The Tech Team – computer support for demonstration rooms, network, presenters, etc…
  • The Digital Media Team – promotional videos, recording presentations, interviews, etc…
  • The Core Team – all of the committee chairs plus operational support that coordinates efforts, manages the timeline and budget, and handles all of the thousand little things that pop up

One of the decisions that we’ve made this year is to become more transparent in the planning process and creating a record for others who are interested in event planning or who may be asked to take over the Symposium in the future.  We’ll be doing that by writing here, in the Symposium blog.  Fair warning – don’t take what is written here as the gospel – a lot of it will be in-process thinking and subject to change.
